Where and What is the Colosseum?
This text is about the Colosseum. It is situated in Rome, Italy. Building commenced in 70 CE and the plans described it as an oval shaped amphitheatre for viewing battles, plays and the like. In part of the theatre, the Emperor, [at the time,] had his own private box to sit in with his government officials. From this vantage point he could see all that was happening around and below him. Below the sand-covered floor, a series of cages held lions, panthers, bears and all other kinds of vicious creatures. But they also held slaves. These slaves were put down there to satisfy the hungry, horrible, appetites of mind of the thriving crowds in the stands. They were used as bait in fights, but let’s not go too far with that because you’ll hear about it later in the entertainment section. You can still see the Colosseum and go on a tour today in Rome, but not in its original state as you can see in the picture above. The Colosseum is still a marvel today even part of the wall gone and most of my family [except Thomas and I] have gone to see it. If you do go and see the Colosseum soon, you will see that the floor has gone and you can see the network of chambers and cages in which the animals and slaves were kept in captivity.
